Recently, the members of the Chicago culinary chat site, LTHForum.com, were invited to nominate locations for the 2005 Great Neighborhood Restaurant Program. A brief description of the program, as posted on the site, follows:

The Great Neighborhood Restaurants Program is designed to recognize local restaurants that the LTH community considers “great” – in other words, places that provide a food experience that is distinctly “better than the rest.” Some of these restaurants might be hole-in-the-wall joints; others might be fancy-pants culinary temples.

Any member could nominate one, and only one, location. These nominations were made in a public forum and open for discussion until the voting period began. The moderators of LTHForum.com voted individually on each nomination. There is no categorization or rankings, simply a "yes" or "no" for each nomination. When all was said and done, twenty-seven locations were selected as Great Neighborhood Restaurants for 2005. I was honored to be one of the voting members of the LTHForum moderation staff and I had a great time at the LTHForum 1-year/1000 Member Party where these winners were announced.

The list of winners (see below) reflects the varied, exciting, and evolving culinary landscape of the Chicago area. I hope it helps you find a new favorite of your own.

Currently, we are in the process of delivering window signs to each of the winning restaurants. Many of them are already displayed alongside Reader reviews and Zagat signs around the city.
