The stretch of Kedzie from Montrose to Lawrence (and surrouding area) is ground zero for extraordinary ethnic dining in Chicago. Besides the array of Middle Eastern restauarnts, there's top-notch Korean, plenty of interesting Mexican and Latino choices, and fantsatic groceries, butchers and bakeries.
The CTA's Brown Line reconstruction project has shuttered the Kedzie stop in the heart of this stretch, which can't be helping the small business owners around there one bit. Based on my non-scientific survey, foot traffic is definitely lower on Kedzie.
I had an excellent dinner last night at City Noor Kebab and the only people in the restaurant besides myself and my dining companion were one other guy at the counter and a guy that came in to ask some questions and didn't buy anything. City Noor is home to some of the best fava bean felafel, most interesting menu, and friendliest owners in town. Show them some love.Metered parking along Kedzie isn't as bad as you might think and there are plenty of reasons besides City Noor to explore this stretch. Like Devon Ave., it's an ethnic culinary treasure in our city and it could use some support right now.
