For those of you who watch "Check, Please!" on WTTW, you may remember a rave review for a Japanese restaurant in Lake Forest called Sushi Kushi Toyo. The reviews were right, this place is great.
So, what about this place justifies a road trip to Lake Forest?
It's not the sushi. While excellent, their sushi is no better than you can get in a lot of other places. What sets SKT apart from the rest is the sheer scope of their menu. Appetizers, kushi (Japanese skewers), rolls, entrees, rice balls, noodle dishes, more rice dishes, vegetarian options, dumplings; this menu is relentless.
While their food always makes me happy, I usually feel a little disappointed when I leave. Did I try enough? Was there some hidden gem on the menu that I missed? I always know that I'll have to come back to Lake Forest in the not-too-distant future.
